Economic uncertainty hits stocks

Friday May 19 by Claudia bourneMSNBC News
IN LATE-MORNING TRADING, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down after edging up a slim 7.54 points the previous session. The Nasdaq Composite Index extended its declines into a third consecutive session after falling 106.25 points Thursday. Other major indexes were lower. The Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index fell, as did the New York Stock Exchange Composite Index. The market showed broad-based decline, led by another day of weakness in technology shares as Internet and telecommunications issues showed the heaviest losses. Financial and industrial stocks, which had shown strength Thursday, joined the decline.
